In this dvd, Fred plays and teaches six complete arrangements of Cole Porter gems, including guitar backup (for singing) and instrumental chord solos for each tune. Just for fun, Fred includes the rarely-heard introductory verses to three of the songs, as well as ad-lib instrumental solos.

After playing each tune, Fred gives you a run-down on the arrangement, going over tricky spots and analyzing the chord progression and substitutions. Then he replays it, slower, on a split screen with close-ups of both hands. A detailed tab/music instructional booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD.

Chord soloing (playing the melody and chords at the same time) is a very complete and satisfying guitar style. The arrangements are given in notation and tablature just as Chet played them. They have not been simplified, and are intended for use by those who know and appreciate Chet's style of guitar technique. Fingerings and performance notes have been added by the transcriber.

In 1988, Brad Jones entered Guitar
Player Magazine's International Guitar
Competition with his own composition
Back Porch Boogie and a rendition
of Umehouse Blues. He entered
on a whim, at the last minute, using
a $1.50 K-Mart cassette tape and a
boom box. There were almost 900 entries,
and he won on the first ballot.
In 1990, he won the National Fingerpicking
Championship at Winfield,
Kansas. In the last years he has performed
with Chet Atkins, Tommy
Jones, Marcel Dadi, Thom Bresh and
John Knowles. He is a regular at the
annual conventions in Nashville and
France of the Chet Atkins Appreciation
Society. In France they have
dubbed him LE MACHINE GUN.
