IL LEGNO CHE CANTA. LA LIUTERIA CHITARRISTICA ITALIANA DEL NOVECENTO. ANGELO GILARDINO E MARIO GRIMALDI
L’arte dei costruttori italiani di chitarre collocata finalmente in una giusta e doverosa rivalutazione della loro opera, ancora misconosciuta e sottostimata.

Cinque grandi maestri della liuteria del Novecento nati entro il 1920: Luigi Mozzani, Pietro Gallinotti, Lorenzo Bellafontana, Mario Pabè e Nicola De Bonis.

La loro storia, gli studi, i viaggi, gli incontri con gli interpreti, la sapienza di un’arte che ha reso leggendari i loro strumenti.

Cinque figure emblematiche, degne di essere collocate accanto a quelle dei grandi liutai iberici il cui prestigio è meritatamente vivo in tutto il mondo: così sia anche per i grandi italiani che costruirono magnifiche chitarre in tempi in cui, al sostantivo “chitarra”, l’aggettivo “spagnola” si legava inscindibilmente in una sorta di simbiosi molto simile al luogo comune.

Angelo Gilardino (Vercelli, 1941) è considerato uno dei più importanti compositori di musica per chitarra del nostro tempo. Affianca all’attività creativa quella di storico e ricercatore. Docente di chitarra nei conservatori, già direttore artistico della Fondazione Segovia di Linares (1997-2005), ha dato un contributo fondamentale al repertorio chitarristico con i suoi ritrovamenti di importanti composizioni del Novecento. Ha pubblicato volumi di successo come La chitarra e Andrés Segovia, l’uomo, l’artista (Edizioni Curci).

Mario Grimaldi (Filippa di Mesoraca, Crotone, 1957) è un apprezzato liutaio. Ha seguito i corsi del maestro Carlo Raspagni e successivamente si è dedicato anche agli studi, indagando a fondo nell’opera del grande liutaio alessandrino Pietro Gallinotti. È coautore (insieme a Mario Dell’Ara) del volume Pietro Gallinotti, liutaio di Solero. Vive e lavora a Montaldo Bormida (Alessandria).

Le trascrizioni delle Sonate di Domenico Scarlatti non sono una novità per i chitarristi, entrate ormai a far parte del loro repertorio.
L’intento di Lendle e Mesirca è anzitutto quello di portare la versione originale per pianoforte verso un “vestito” chitarristico, in modo da renderla idiomaticamente eseguibile sul nuovo strumento. La struttura è volutamente snella, al fine di evidenziare la sostanza dell’opera scarlattiana e di permettere all’esecutore di focalizzare la sua attenzione sul carattere della sua musica, evocandone lo spirito e la giocosità.

Create come materiale didattico, le Sonate di Scarlatti mantengono questa finalità anche nella versione per chitarra, in cui scale, movimenti coordinatori inusuali, arpeggi o abbellimenti, rimangono una sorta di sfida strumentale.

Il cd allegato contiene tutte le Sonate nella mirabile esecuzione di Alberto Mesirca.
