Slack-key è un genere di musica fingerstyle originario delle Hawaii. Il nome si riferisce alla open tunings usata, che significa "chiave allentata" per la particolare accordatura della chitarra in cui le corde vengono allentate ed accordate sul tono di un accordo superiore. Le melodie delle canzoni vengono suonate sulle note più acute e le corde più gravi vengono pizzicate per accompagnarla. La chitarra accordata in questo modo viene utilizzata generalmente per accompagnare le danze hula. Molte accordature slack-key possono essere fatte partendo dalla accordatura standard, come intonando le corde a vuoto fino a formare l'accordo di Sol maggiore.
