Andrew James Somers è nato in Inghilterra il 31 Dicembre 1942. Ha studiato chitarra classica per 4 anni fino al 1973. Ha suonato con gli Animal di Eric Burdon e con i Soft Machine come Allan Hordsworth, ma in periodi diversi. Ma è  conosciuto per essere il chitarrista del gruppo dei Police.
