Notes to The Music In This Volume
This collection of songs by Eric Clapton is new repertoire for the
classical guitar and introduces solo adaptations of the music that
are not simply score reductions of the originals.
Where the music is dependent on the amplification or sound effects
of the electric, steel-strung guitar, I have made modification to
it, or created new passages, that are more idiomatic of the
acoustic, fingerstyle instrument.
Examples are found:
a) in the solos and improvisations, which sometimes extend beyond
the fingerboard range of the classical guitar.
b) where to maintain a continuity of the bass and solo lines
produces an impossible or uncharacteristic solo part.
c) where a section is left open for improvising.
d) where a part is intended to be played by another instrument,
such as keyboards.
Chord symbols are included for reference to denote the basic
background harmonies.
My intention in arranging these very popular songs has been to
produce musically satisfying pieces that the classical guitarist
can add to his repertoire both for study and performance.

Se è possibile parlare di una musa ispiratrice dei chitarristi Rock questa è sicuramente Patricia Boyd.

In sua compagnia sono nate le canzoni "Something", "I need you" e "Isn't it a pity" di George Harrison e "Layla", "Wonderful tonight" e "Bell bottom blues" di Eric Clapton. Patricia Anne Boyd che è stata la moglie di Harrison dal 1966 al 1977, e dal 1979 al 1989  la moglie di Eric Clapton. Nata il17 Marzo del 1944, ha cominciato la cariera della modella nel 1962, non era acettata dai fotografi per il suo look "non convenzionale". L'album  "Layla end Other Assoted Love Songs" è la dichiarazione d'amore per la Boyd. Si sono divorziati perchè Eric assumeva droga ed è diventato un'alcolizzato che non voleva curarsi e anche per le sue moltplici storie extraconiugali.

Mentre la causa del divorzio dal Beatle è da ricercare nel viaggio in India e nella conseguente sua infatuazione religiosa, cosa che lei non condivideva affatto.

Anche John Lennon e Mick Jagger erano attratti da questa persona, e Jagger l'ha corteggiata per molto tempo senza riuscire nei suoi progetti. La Boyd ha avuto una breve relazione nel 1973 con Ron Wood dei Rolling Stones.

La Boyd c'era anche quel giorno all'inizio del '65 quando insieme a John e Cynthia Lennon, dal dentista John Ryley (figlio di un polizziotto) presero a loro insaputa un caffè "corretto" con LSD. Le due coppie diventarono subito furiose e estremamente spaventate, in questo stato di grande agitazione la Boyd minacciava di rompere una vetrina mentre George la trascinava via.

Bell Bottom blues è stata scritta dopo che la Boyd aveva indossato i blue jeans che le aveva regalato Eric.

Il titolo Layla è stato preso da un racconto persiano di un amore irrequieto.

Wonderful tonight fu suonata per la prima volta il 7 settembre 1976, mentre Eric aspettava che si preparasse per un party con i McCartney. Dice Patricia: 'Wonderful Tonight' è il ricordo più toccante di tutto ciò che c'era di buono nel nostro rapporto, e quando le cose andarono male fu una tortura ascoltarla."

Forse anche la copertina del disco è una ritratto di questa Boyd.

Se fosse stata una chitarrista avrebbe potuto imparare facilmente da Eric, George, e Wood, Oppure suonare o cantare, ma cosa aveva di così speciale ?! Dalle fotografia non riusciamo a comprenderli completamente.
